Tax Filler Script
The Indian tax filing has become even more tedious now. Going forward, starting from assessment year 2020-21 (financial year 2019-2020) one needs to report each and every equity redemption that results in long term capital gain in Schedule 112A. It used to be optional last year. Instead of reporting every transaction you could just report the aggregate value. But it is not optional anymore. This increases the burden on the tax payer especially if you have made a lot of small transactions.

Building A Periscope With Cardboard
I think I can build a career making cardboard toys. Every time my daughter has an "idea" for a toy, I have get ready to build something out of cardboard. After the doll house, disk drop game and rolling ball machine, the latest idea from my daughter was to build a periscope. She probably saw some youtube video of some one building it.

Rolling Ball Machine Construction
After building a doll house and disk drop board, my daughter had another idea for a cardboard project. This time she wanted to build a rolling ball machine. Again, as usual, I comply. I had no idea of what she had in mind. So I asked her to do a drawing and explain how the machine is supposed to work. She drew a spiral on paper, cut it out along the pencil drawing. Then, pointing at the dangling spiral, she said "that is what I want".

Building A Disk Drop Game Board
In one of my previous posts, I was left wondering if toys have a place in unschooling. The argument was that the toys help develop creativity in the kid. On the other hand, why should we buy any toys if the kid is creative? They can build their own toys with nature. Well, I got a mild taste of the latter when my daughter proposed and help build a disk drop game board. For those unaware of a disk drop game, here is a picture of it.

Drip Irrigation Control System v4.0 – Web Server

Drip Irrigation Control System v4.0 - Hardware
As promised, I started upgrading my drip irrigation control system with v4.0 design and software. If you read my last update on the control system, you know that there are two things that I wanted to add to it. One was a way to access the system via internet, so I don't need to physically configure it. And the other was to add a humidity sensor. I finally worked on the first upgrade. Now my control system is accessible over the net (currently limited to my home network). However, I had to make a few hardware design changes. I replaced Arduino with ESP8266. The why and how follows.

Investment Recommendation App I use
If you remember how I handled the market downturn and why I don't follow the 70:30 allocation, you know the reason behind it. I was just doing what my app was recommending me to do based on the market. For the past few months I have been rewriting the app and finally have parity with the old version. This is one more of those pet projects of mine that I always wanted to work on after retirement and now living the dream :)

Hundred Posts and Counting
I passed a wonderful milestone today. This is my 100th post on this blog. I did not realize that I was so close to this milestone. When I first started I did not have any intentions of doing it for the long term. It was supposed to be just an online dairy. I wanted to pen down my daily activities and thoughts so I can recollect the memories and rediscover the days gone by. But thanks to encouragement from friends and family it grew into a blog for helping others :)

Organic Gardening: Shade Net, Drips and Harvest 2.0
In one of the earlier posts, I talked about the shade net setup that we worked on in 2019. We only set the shade net on a small part of the terrace as a test and it worked brilliantly in protecting the plants. The rest of the plants outside of the shade net area were not handling the sun well. So we wanted to finish the rest of the terrace too. In the mean time, monsoon hit and the original shade net was all torn in many places, so it needed replacement. From that we understood that the shade net might need to be re-done every year after monsoon :). Eventually, after the monsoon we set down to work on the rest of the shade net project, dubbed 2.0 for obvious reasons :P
