How Debt Fund Taxation Affects My Planning
Debt funds are taxed differently after changes to the Finance Bill 2023. This is old news I know, but I did not plan on writing anything about it because it does not change anything in my financial plan. But a reader asked my opinion and I thought I will do a quick post. Remember that anything that I write in my blog is not financial advice for people at large. It is just a recount of my experience and how various investment opportunities or taxes are applicable to my specific situation. Even if some one is exactly in my situation, my advice or experience may not apply to them because it also has to do with the mindset. Why I Don't Have New Year Goals Anymore
I am the kind of person who really enjoys setting up goals and trying to achieve them. So every year before the start of a new year, I have a couple of goals that I’d like to achieve that year. Usually one goal is about health and fitness and another goal can be anything. This has been the case since 2008. But lately, I have stopped making new year goals. Now my goals are not aligned with the years any more. I just make a goal when I feel like and have an approximate target date and try to execute as best as I can.

On Goal Setting
Setting goals is a great motivator to get things done. Without a goal, life goes on without much excitement and nothing to look forward to or work towards. But if you have a goal that is too hard or takes too long to achieve it may actually be demotivating. How do you get out of this situation. Simple, have a long term goal and then have a few smaller, shorter incremental goals.

Investing For Multiple Goals And Portfolios Management
One of the readers of my blog asked me how I manage multiple portfolios for various goals. They also wanted to know what platform I use to manage portfolios for family. So I thought I will expand a bit on that topic. To start off, I don't have multiple goals. I just had and still have retirement corpus as the only goal. The portfolios I manage for my parents, wife and kid have only one goal as well. However, mine is a unique case and almost everyone have multiple goals. As I mentioned before, every goal needs to have a different portfolio.

Goal Based Investing
So far I have been giving financial advice for the singular goal of early retirement. But many of you probably have multiple goals. May be you want to buy a house, save up for kids education or planning an international vacation in a couple of years. Whatever might be your goal, you need to have a financial plan.
