  • Not Saving For Kid Was a Lie

I've said this several times before that I've not been saving anything for my kid. It is high time that I come out with the truth. I was lying. Well, sort of. Every year on my daughter's birthday, her grand parents from both sides gift her money. The money is not a small amount. It is large enough that they transfer the money to my account asking me to save up for her future. I guess they don't like my radical thoughts when it comes to saving for kid's future? Either way, they have been doing it since my daughter's first birthday in 2014.

  • The Franklin Wind-up Saga

In a recent post, I mentioned that Franklin has started the e-voting process. Investors in the AMC's winding-up funds have started receiving emails about e-voting details and schedule. The email mentioned that the voting was supposed to happen between June 9 and 12. I was hoping that Franklin will be able to start paying some of the investors either in June or July soon after the e-voting. But it does not seem like that will happen. In a recent news, it is known that a petition was filed in Gujarat High Court (HC) against Franklin. The HC then stayed the Franklin's e-voting process.

  • Update On Franklin Funds That Are Winding Up

It does not seem like the problems with Franklin are going to end anytime soon. They are in news everyday for some reason or the other. The first issue I can see is that the investors will not receive any money in May. The reason? Franklin has not yet started the voting process. And until that happens I don't think they can return anything to the investors. If you recall, I was hoping Franklin will return something in May.

  • Should We Be Greedy or Fearful In The Current Market?

Should we be greedy or fearful? I really don't know. This is one of those confusing times. When the markets crashed all over the world due to COVID-19, I thought it was a good time to be greedy. But soon, the markets recovered some of the losses making it a confusing time. If markets don't fall down deeply, there is no way to properly time the market, which is what I like to do. In the current situation, I can do nothing much but keep my asset allocation the same as the markets move sideways.

  • The Truth About My Passive Income

Many people have been wondering and some were asking if I have any other passive income other than my investments in equity and debt mutual funds. Some think that I may have some real estate income or business income or some other income that I am not disclosing. Here is a post to bust some myths and bring out the truth.

  • Income Tax Reporting

While the name "income tax reporting" seems to suggest that you only need to report income, it is not really the case. It has been expanded to report investments that you already have, whether they gave you any income or not during the assessment year. After reading a comment on one of my blog posts I became aware of the fact that some people might be misinformed about what is supposed to be reported.

  • Interest Rates On Govt. Schemes Have Been Cut

Finally some good news that I have been waiting for. The interest rates for the governments schemes have come down. Just in yesterday's post I have been complaining about the high interest rates of many of these schemes have been the barrier for the rate cut transmissions.

  • How Am I Handling the Market

Given the current market situation, a few of my friends wanted to know how my portfolio is doing and what have I been doing during the crisis. So this post should hopefully answer these questions. I want to preface by saying that don't be fooled by randomness. I may have performed better or worse than you expect and it does not mean I made any smart moves nor that I made mistakes. Only note that luck favors the prepared.

  • Sensex and Nifty Down by 30%

At close today, both Sensex and Nifty are down by 30%. We are officially in bear territory. It is considered a bear market if the market has fallen more than 20% from the recent highs and the investor sentiment is negative. Some market pundits are predicting that there is going to be a recession worse than the 2008 crisis. I have no idea if that will happen, but I am not worried at all. Also I cannot predict market, so I can't even tell if they are correct or not. But I have a plan.
